Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is referred to as the grandfather or grandmother of massage therapy. It has been used for healing for several centuries. The primary use of Swedish massage is to increase blood flow in the circulatory system. When this is obtained, increased blood flow encourages a cleaner, fresher supply of oxygen to the muscles and surrounding joints, fascia, bones, tendons and ligaments.
Indications for Swedish massage are general debility, fatigue, pain, muscle spasm, muscle tension, heightened stress levels and poor body image. Swedish massage also works on most of the systems in our body; Nervous, Musculoskeletal, Connective Tissue, Bone, and Respiration. Not only are the muscles feeling massaged and healed so also are all these systems.
Swedish Esalen was developed at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California. Essentially Swedish/Esalen elongates typical Swedish strokes to incorporate the whole body in one stroke. I was trained in Swedish/Esalen and Traditional Swedish massage.
